Why is humidification so important?

Humidity plays a vital role in creating healthy, comfortable and productive indoor environments. When indoor air becomes too dry, it can negatively affect people, products, processes and even buildings.

Maintaining an optimal relative humidity level, typically between 40% and 60%, helps support human health and wellbeing. Air that is too dry can contribute to irritated eyes, dry skin, sore throats and respiratory discomfort. It can also allow airborne particles and microorganisms to remain suspended in the air for longer, potentially increasing the spread of airborne contaminants

Humidification is also essential for many commercial and industrial applications. Numerous materials naturally absorb and release moisture depending on their surroundings. Excessively dry air can lead to shrinkage, cracking, warping, static electricity and product quality issues. Industries such as printing, woodworking, textiles, electronics manufacturing, food production and data centres often rely on controlled humidity to maintain consistent operations, protect valuable assets and ensure product quality.

In workplaces, appropriate humidity levels can contribute to employee wellbeing and productivity. People generally feel more comfortable in environments where humidity is properly controlled, helping them remain focused and perform at their best. Reducing the effects of dry air can also help decrease discomfort that may otherwise impact concentration and workplace satisfaction.

Ultimately, humidification is about creating the right indoor environment. Whether the goal is to enhance occupant comfort, support health, protect sensitive materials, improve manufacturing processes or optimise building performance, maintaining the correct humidity level is a key factor in achieving reliable and sustainable results.
